Preparing for Surgery

General Anesthesia Instructions*

1. Do not eat or drink after midnight prior to your surgery. To do otherwise may be life threatening and we will be unable to perform your surgery. You may take your regular medication with a small sip of water per doctor's instructions.

2. An adult escort must come with you and remain in our surgery center while you are with us.

3. Please remove contact lenses, finger-nail polish, jewelry, excessive makeup, and dentures prior to surgery.

4. Please wear loose fitting clothes with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled sturdy (no sandals) shoes for your surgery.

5. If you were prescribed an antibioic, start taking it the day before your surgery.

6. If prescribed a narcotic, you must fill it using the paper prescription that we provided you. Per new Federal Regulations, we can no longer call in any narcotics to a pharmacy. If your prescription is more than 6 months old, we will need to provide you with a new one that you can pick up during our normal business hours.

7. If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.

8. If you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Sharma prior to your surgical visit for instructions.


Local Anesthesia or Nitrous Instructions*

1.  You may have a light meal and liquids prior to your surgery. 

2. If you were prescribed an antibioic, start taking it the day before your surgery.

3. If prescribed a narcotic, you must fill it using the paper prescription that we provided you. Per new Federal Regulations, we can no longer call in any narcotics to a pharmacy. If your prescription is more than 6 months old, we will need to provide you with a new one that you can pick up during our normal business hours.

*The method of your anesthesia will be discussed at your consultation. If you are unsure of which anesthesia will be used please contact our office.


Other Important Instructions:

1. Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

2. Park in the special designated parking spots on the side of the building, then come in the front door.

3. Have all prescriptions filled prior to your visit.

4. Bring a pillow and light blanket for your car ride home.

5. Be prepared to pay your account balance. If you are using Care Credit, bring your account number with you.
